World No.37 Gilas Pilipinas Men (1-0) stuns the world No.6 Latvia men's national basketball team (1-1), 89-80, in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) on Wednesday, July 3 at the Arena Riga in Latvia. [REPLAY VIDEO]
Gilas Pilipinas pulled off an upset against Latvia, securing their first victory over a European team in an official FIBA competition since 1960.
Justin Brownlee led the Philippines a near-triple-double, scoring 26 points (5/12 2pts, 3/8 3pts, 7/7ft), along with 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 steal, and a block in 37 minutes of play. Kai Sotto had a solid performance with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block in 32 minutes.
Dwight Ramos finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. June Mar Fajardo added 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a game-high 3 steals, and a block, while Chris Newsome contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal.

Gilas will be back in action in less than 24 hours against the world No. 23 Georgia (0-1) [LIVE], who was beaten by Latvia by a huge 28 points. If Gilas wins against Georgia, they'll secure the #1 seed in Group A and advance to the semis against the #2 seed in Group B. If Georgia wins by 18 points or less, the Philippines still advances. However, a Georgia victory by 19 points or more will eliminate Gilas from the tournament.
