The San Miguel Beermen survived a late-game rally from the Magnolia Timplados Hotshots, 103-95 in Game 1 of their Best-of-7 Finals series of the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. [VIDEO]
Magnolia bounces back from a slow start to finish the 1st quarter in the lead, 24-20, but San Miguel heats up from beyond the arc, outscoring the Hotshots 41-20 in the second quarter to establish a 17-point halftime lead, 61-44. However, Magnolia trimmed their deficit to 13 at the end of the 3rd quarter, 85-72. In the middle of the final period, San Miguel establishes their largest lead, 94-74. However, the Hotshots mount a late rally, reducing the deficit to 5 in under 2 minutes, but their efforts fall short of securing a win as the Beermen extend their winning streak to 10.
Five SMB players finished in double figures, with Bennie Boatwright leading the way with a double-double of 27 points (8/19FG, 2/12 3PT, 10/13FT), to go along with 16 rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks.
CJ Perez had a solid game of 28 points, two rebounds, ome assist, three steals, and a block while Marcio Lassiter had a great shooting night, going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc to finish with 16 points, five rebounds, and one assist. June Mar Fajardo had his own double-double performance of 11 points, eleven rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Trollano added 10 points, three rebounds, and one assist.
Finals Game 2 is on Sunday, February 4, at 6:15pm at the MOA Arena.
