The Meralco Bolts (7-2) handed the league-leading Magnolia Timplados Hotshots (9-2) their second loss in the 2023-24 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the University of San Agustin Gym in Iloilo City.
Magnolia cut the deficit to only one with 51 seconds, 81-80. However, Chris Newsome shot 4-of-4 clutch free throws to secure the victory against the Hotshots, 85-81.
Meralco's new import, Shonn Miller, who replaces high-scoring guard Zach Lofton, had a huge PBA debut with 33 points, 22 rebounds, and 4 steals. Chris Newsome had a solid game of 17 points (5/9FG, 6/7ft), to go along with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and a block while Bong Quinto added 8 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists.
