Pat Aquino-mentored Gilas Pilipinas Women Youth U18 uses strong fourth quarter to beat Thailand's women U18 national team, 65-50 to grab their first win in the opening day of the 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship (Division B) on Monday, September 5 at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India.
5'7" Kate Colyn Bobadilla led the Philippines with 22 points (8/15fg, 3/6 3pts) to go with 2 rebounds and 4 steals. Kristan Geyl Yumul added 10 points (4/14fg, 2/9 3pts) along with 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. US NCAA Division 1 school UC San Diego-commit Sumayah Sugapong had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 steals in 24 minutes of play.
PHL shot 25/80 (31%) from the field, including 7-of-32 shooting from beyond the arc (THA - 16/62 fg, 5/24 3pts), and Gilas went 8-of-16 from the free throw line (THA - 13/25 ft). Thailand had 29 turnovers while Gilas had 21. PHL recorded more steals (20-11) and rebounds, 55-54.
