Gilas Pilipinas Women Youth U18 (2-0) defeated Samoa's women U18 national team (1-1), 66-59 to claim their second straight win in the second day of the 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship (Division B) on Tuesday, September 6 at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India.
US NCAA Division 1 school UC San Diego-commit 5'8" Sumayah Sugapong led the Philippines with game-high 26 points (8/18 fg, 3/8 3pts, 7/14 ft) along with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in 30 minutes of play. Kristan Geyl Yumul with another solid game of 16 points (5/11 3pts) to go with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while 5'7" Kate Bobadilla with an all-around gameo of 8 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.
PHL shot 23/67 (34%) from the field, including 10-of-34 shooting from beyond the arc (Samoa - 21/60 fg, 6/23 3pts), and Gilas went 10-of-24 from the free throw line (Samoa - 11/17 ft). Samoa had 31 turnovers while Gilas had 22. PHL recorded more steals (14-13) and assists, 17-15.
