UPDATE: Philippines vs. Puerto Rico [replay video]

The Philippines ended its three-on-three basketball campaign on a bright note, scoring a 34-23 win over Puerto Rico to finish ninth in the 2010 Youth Olympic Games on Monday at the *Scape Youth Space court in Singapore.

Bobby Ray Parks, Jr., son of former seven-time PBA Best Import Bobby, produced another sterling performance as he fired 13 points aside from grabbing seven rebounds to help the RP side win its third straight games after dropping its first three matches.

Parks’ performance was a fitting sequel to his 10-point, five-steal effort in the 28-19 smashing of Iran Sunday.

Parks was ably supported by Michael Pate, who drilled in eight points laced with a pair of triples while Jeron Teng, son of former pro Alvin, and Cris Michael Tolomia, younger brother of ex-PBA player Chester, chipped in seven and six points, respectively.

Though the RP delegation failed to win a single medal, the victory of the RP cagers turned out to be a source of pride for the Filipino community.

RP chief Mark Joseph said the feat of the Filipino dribblers should make everybody proud.

With Parks at the helm, the Nationals posted a 20-15 lead at the break which they valiantly protected to keep their rivals at bay.

It was a sweet ending to what looked like a doomed campaign for the Filipinos after losing to tall rivals from US Virgin Islands, Spain and Croatia.

Their 22-13 win over South Africa started the Nationals’ winning run.

divert from nba American style of basket to european style.Yan ang mas bagay sa pinoy dribbler, just imagine top 3 euro powerhouse lalo na yung gold medalist na Serbia kaya ang sbp is in the right track for tapping the services of Serbian coach toroman.Talagang slap on the face hindi lng ng team USA kundi ng PBA coaches and bcap na tutol sa foreign coach.

Carlos Arroyo of Miami Heat is the Puerto Rico's famous player in NBA.

In their early 3 loses, it was due to unfamiliarity with the rules, lack chemistry and defense. But the games went on, we saw them improved.

IMHO, I think the improved Team Philippines now could defeat 7 of the last 8.

  18. GSP Pitbulls // August 24, 2010 9:01 AM

These kids are the future of our National Team, together with Kiefer Ravena... truly these kids proved that if we put our acts together and being proud of playing for flag and country we could excel. SBP is doing a great job to this youth.
Sana magtulungan na lang tayong mga Pilipino... sana huwag naman ipagka-it ng mga PBA teams ang mga players nila para sa National Team natin.
Just like the recent Stankovic Cup. Who could have known na mag 4th place pa tayo with a depleted line up. Muntik na natin natalo ang nag-Champion na Lebanon by just a point.

  20. Anonymous // August 24, 2010 9:59 AM

  25. Anonymous // August 24, 2010 12:55 PM

Actually, skillswise, Philippines is up there with the best in the world eh, as in world class ang skills natin sa basketball. Height lang talaga ang problema, and at times, yung sistema (especially kay Yeng Guiao sa Powerade Nat'l team.) Imagine if our players are just as big as the players of Spain, or Argentina, etc..., I'm sure we're now among the Powerhouses in the world.
