San Beda pounced on Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) on Friday, winning 92-68 in the NCAA men's basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Red Lions outmatched the Generals to extend its winning run to 10 straight games in the 86th NCAA basketball tournament.

The game was won in the pivotal third quarter when San Beda scored 34 points against EAC’s 13 for a 73-49 lead going into the last quarter.

Borgie Hermida dished out a sensational triple-double performance for the Red Lions, tallying 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Hermida received scoring help from Garvo Lanete, who added 17 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists to San Beda’s statistics.

Lenete said defense was the key in their successful 10-game run.

“Nag-focus kami sa depensa, then in-execute namin lagi ‘yung play. Pero inuuna namin ang defense bago ang offense,” said the 6-foot-1 guard from Leyte.

The Generals managed to keep the scores close in the first two quarters, and the Red Lions were ahead at the half only by 3 points, 29-26.

San Beda widened the gap in the third quarter, courtesy of a big scoring binge led by Hermida, for a 24-point cushion.

EAC launched several offensive efforts in the fourth canto, but all of these fell short as San Beda restored its lead to 24 points, sealing the game with a 92-68 victory.

The Generals suffered their 8th loss against 2 wins.

In the second game, defending champions San Sebastian Stags scored a 62-51 victory over the St. Benilde Blazers to remain within striking distance with league leader San Beda.

Jonathan Semira led the Stags with 11 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist for San Sebastian’s 9th win in 10 games.
