Lebanon, and not the Philippines, will host the 2011 International Basketball Federation (Fiba)-Asia Championship, the region’s qualifier for the London Olympics the following year.
This was relayed to the BusinessMirror on Sunday by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Noli Eala, who, along with other top officials of the federation, attended the Fiba-Asia Council congress in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend.
Reelected Fiba-Asia president Sheikh Saud, secretary-general Dato Yeoh and deputy secretary-general Hagop Khajirian awarded the right to host the important event to the Lebanese association.
The SBP campaigned to bring the tournament to Manila not only to show Fiba-Asia that Philippine basketball is now in order, but also to give Filipinos the opportunity to witness top-level Asia basketball in action.
The champion in the 2011 championships will represent the continent in the London Olympics.
Big Iranian out of Guangzhou
It looks like the Philippines (Smart Gilas) and the rest of the contenders in the continent have one less big man to be concerned about in the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
Memphis Grizzlies center Hamed Haddadi is expected to stay with his team in the National Basketball Association (NBA) instead of joining the Iranian national squad.
The 7-foot-2 center told Tehran Times that he will take part in the Grizzlies’ summer camp next month in Las Vegas.
“The Asian Games is not an official tournament, so I’m obliged to stay in the US,” Haddadi told the paper.
“However, Iranian officials are now negotiating with my team to allow me to accompany Iran in China.”

I agree, its a big break 4 gilas dat 7-2 hamed hadadi is out of d asian games. iran is a diferent team w/o hadadi, ive seen iran play w/o hadadi in one of iran's game in last year's jones cup & iran was a diferent team as it lost 2 taiwan. I've heard lebanon's no. 1 player fadi el khatib has retired w/ d national team, that is also a welcome news 4 us
it will be very impossible for us to conduct a prestigious tournament like FIBA asia if we dont build a world class stadiums like in the NBA.. the courts here in the philippines like the one in araneta is fixed.. modern stadiums today has changeable courts, like staples center in LA.. which they can change it if LAKERS or CLIPPERS will play at home.. if we want the FIBA "official" tournaments to be held here in the Philippines the court should be like this (http://gamingring.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/fiba_court_cc.jpg) you need to install this kind of court in araneta which is very impossible.. only modern stadiums can do that.. "a replaceable basketball court".. i think FIBA is very strict in requirements..
Naloko na money talk yan, ang Lebanon kaya napasama sa Turkey this year of same reason.
Go Gilas !!!

I don't know Why middle eastern Arabs favors fellow Arab countries regarding on hosting the fiba event parang nagiging unfair ata sa east Asian countries like Sokor,China and Philippines.
Malamang kung magkagulo sa Lebanon at the time of the FIBA Asia tournament sa atin ilipat ang venue.

Na improved si Haddadi through Coach Toroman, Greg Slaughter why not. Slaughter a challenge to you become on NBA someday
