Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) most valuable player (MVP) Kelly Williams of Sta. Lucia, former rookie of the year Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine and ex-national team standout Jared Dillinger of Talk ‘N Text on Smart Gilas team?
Their inclusion remains up for discussion by the PBA board of governors and their respective mother ballclubs.
This was confirmed by PBA vice chairman and Purfoods board governor Rene Pardo to GMANews.TV.
“We haven’t discussed anything yet on the table," Pardo said. “It all depends on the team but it will be a big risk for the team’s because the period of time in between breaks in the PBA is very short and players will be needed right away by their mother teams."
Smart Gilas Serbian coach Rajko Toroman, who steered the RP development national team to a third place finish in the 21st Dubai International basketball tournament, has mulled over the possibility of tapping several pro players in the Olympic-qualifying tournament.
Pardo sees no problem with lending several players from the pro league but expressed apprehensions for their respective mother teams.
“What if the said player got injured? The team that hired them would be on the losing end since they are no longer able to perform," added Pardo.
Of the three players, Dillinger appears as the likely to be given the go signal to play since the Tropang Texters is owned by businessman/sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan.
Rain or Shine co-owner Raymond Yu said they would follow whatever the PBA board decides on. “Whatever the PBA tells us, then we will follow." – GMANews.TV

And they will always stay mum because of their self vested interests !!! I hate to say this but the PBA should not even be considered anymore as an entity that would help SBP for international competitions. They are simply too tied up with their corporate profit margins to think of sacrificing their own for flag and country and this is mostly the reason why the PBA will eventually die a natural death.

PBA is getting negative publicity lately...not lending their players will further garner them backlash from the already disgruntled Pinoys and maybe new ones.
If the PBA wants their good image back, they should lend the players that Toroman wants to have in his team...

Best players in the Pro ranks???....i never saw any PBA players shoot like the way the Gilas did their 3 points in the last Dubai competition.......dunks???..i think Japath can compete with any of the dunkers in the PBA....Ball IQ???...it would seem that Gilas guards have higher ball IQ than the PBA guard...dribbling....ok..maybe..just maybe PBA guards are better but I think ilas guards know how to pass better and distribute the ball.

williams, norwood at dillinger. santos and azi they have something special na nkita ni toroman na truly needed by the rp5. marami ngtaas ng kilay sa mga kinuha sa amateur ranks ni toroman pro now they let us wow. marami tayo maisusuggest pa pro palagay ko inoobserve narin cla. cguro the best way tlaga is let toroman tell our country whom he thinks is suitable for the team and let them hear our nation wants and ideas of whom that may help the team. kung sa coaches nga mas gus2 ko pa c perry ronquillo kaysa kay yeng or chot reyes and i think he is a good addition to the coaching staff but i dont know where he is na sayang.
as of naturalization let just pray makakuha na tayo ng maayos na cnter pro sana let us give chance to ekwe muna to be the back up naturalized player coz this player loves our country and will play 100%. if my memory is correct i remember harbour wasnt able to use him bcoz other countries are scared and they ask if we able to get an approval of his country to get him as our 2nd import kaya tuloy isa lang import ng harour.
dillinger was questioned also if he really is a filipino maraming bansa ang aware sa college background nya at konting polish lang he will be rally hard to stop.

THE BAD:
1. The PBA sent the national team in Asian Games, Fiba-Asia not qualify since the lack of preparations, lack of internation exposure, individual play over team play which not applicable to international tournament.
2. Some of the players(PBA) have no heart to play for the national cause, they play PITIKS-PITIKS to keep away theme for injury. Meaning 'money over glory"
3. Since birth of the PBA in the late 70's the Philippine basketball is dying in the world map. In late 80's returned to the world map in a special program(NCC). Thanks to Mr. Danding Cojuanco.

the best solution for that is to commit guys like taulava,williams,norwood,dillinger to practice at least once a week for smart gilas...di pa naman talaga sila kailangan right now because the tourneys that smart gilas is competing are just for exposure...sa tingin nyo kaya mabibigyan pa ng time sina cawaling,ababou,baracel,ballesteros at slaughter kung nandyan na yung mga pba stars na nasa wish list ni toroman?...ang mabuti dyan ay ma-utilize muna ng smart gilas yung mga players na meron sila ngayon...the young guys of smart gilas need the 80 games this year in order to enhance their skills....saka na lng i-insert yung mga pba players kung kailangan na talaga and if there are holes to fill in(especially sa major competitions)...at least that time di na sila mahihirapan na mag-jell sa system ni toroman dahil sumasali naman sila sa mga practices...

I tink its a positive development, dat only underscores d PBA's concern of sending d strongest nat'l team posible on internat'l. tourneys. lets face it, d PBA is a business institution, it can't aford 2 sacrice so much even if its 4 d country's interest. it can't aford 2 lend its top players 4 d nat'l. team & prepare 4 internat'l. tourneys 4 d whole year round just like Smart Gilas is doing. Malulugi ang PBA kung ganun. But d fact dat d PBA pipol is considering d proposal of beefing up Gilas w/ 3 or 4 players is an indication of d pro league's concern 2 help d nat'l team. I belev dat d current line-up of Gilas, bolsterd by a tall american import, & beefed up by PBA stars Kelly wiliiams, Gabe Norwod, & jared delinger wil be at par or even be stronger dan lebanon, iran, jordan or even a Yao Ming-less chinese nat'l. team in a few months. gilas is doing great so far, defininitely d team is on d rayt track, wid abundant internat'l. exposure, Gilas wud be a tough nut 2 crack in dis year's Asian Games & wud even be stronger in nxt year's FIBA-Asia.

Wala malabo! Si dilinger lang malamang. Kung sakali puede ung 4 players at napahiram. Gano ung time ng practice na mabibigay nila at makasama ung players sa lahat ng intl games ng GILAS. Kasi once na nirelease sila, dapat full time na sila sa gilas sa lahat ng competition na malabo ding mangyari kung di magsasakripisyo mother teams nila.

I THINK ALL GILAS NEEDS IS TAULAVA AND WILLIAMS. THEY JUST NEED SOLID FRONTLINERS WHO CAN DEFEND AND REBOUND. THEY ARE LOADED WITH GUARDS UPTO THE SMALL FORWARD POSITIONS, PLUS THE FACT THAT TWO PLAYERS CANNOT HUGELY AFFECT THE TEAM CHEMISTRY. THE BIG MEN OF GILAS CAN STILL BE DEVELOPED, THE ADDITIONAL PBA PLAYERS SHOULD ONLY BE MEANT TO MAKE THE BENCH DEEPER IN TERMS OF BIG MEN.

We dont need PBA players, we will just recruit, young, fresh and taller talents and train them properly. You can see how the young players of smart gilas had remendously improve under Coach Toroman. A PBA team for sure in a healthy and neutral competition cannot win against this team, as what they did in Dubai.
Besides, the PBA is not willing to lend their players, if they are just willing, with the intent of Coach Toroman, they can ask for a formal letter request from SBP, just put this to rest, PBA players represented our country many times and failed as many times.
We still need a stable player at center position. If we cant get imports to be naturalize maybe its time for Eman , Fajardo to join the Gilas training para ma evaluate or get Asi for back up. Aguilar is not a pure center. Japeth plays like 3 or 4. But current Gilas team needs to have a good defender at the center position. I prefer to get 2 naturalize player at center position. Bacarael, ballesteros were great but Asian Games they wont be a factor. Remember Dubai open is like an exibition games for other country. ( commercial games ) its different for Fiba leagues. Williams/Dillenger/Norwood would be graet additions.

Kelly can do that. about Asi, pede option pero we need a real center. mga 6'11" pataas. a 7 footer pag meron. kasi tingnan nyo mga centro ng mga ibang countries. iran and china have 7 footers at talagang magaling. we need to defend this guys. sa 1,2, 3 positions we are ok na.

Halos kulang isang taon din silang makakasama sakali. Besides, less ang distraction para sa dalawa ang foreign travel pag pinag usapan ang family issues, kaysa PBA stars.
Si Norwood lang ang palagay kong walang distraction kung papayag ang PBA kasi single pa siya.
