UFC 105 was full of knockouts, but it was the main event that had fans standing on their feet as the legendary two-division champion, Randy Couture, squared off against the young and hungry Brandon Vera. Both men traded big shots in an entertaining fight that saw Couture looking to use his dirty boxing skills while Vera focused on his Muay Thai kicks.
RANDY COUTURE VS. BRANDON VERA
ROUND 1
Vera came out fast, landing a nice kick and a right hand that appeared to rock Couture momentarily. Immediately, Couture locked in a clinch and pushed Vera to the cage, where he worked hard for a takedown. Vera fought it off, however, until the ref separated them. Couture was quick to shoot in though, pressing Vera to the cage and finally getting the takedown. Although Vera worked his way back up to his feet, Couture continued to work for the takedown, landing a couple of knees in the process. A looping left hand over the top followed by a little more dirty boxing from Couture was probably enough to win an uneventful first round.\
ROUND 2
Vera landed a quick leg kick to start the round, but an accidental eye poke would cause a break in the action. When the action resumed, Vera quickly landed a knee to the body. Couture would charge in looking for the takedown, but Vera would land another nice leg kick to the body. Both men would wrestle some more along the cage, but it was Vera who was landing the better knees. Vera would land a couple more nice body shots and a HARD knee to the body that buckled Couture and had him turning away in pain. Vera would jump on him on the ground, but was unable to get any meaningful work done before the ref stood them back up. Couture was now clearly favoring the right side of his body where Vera landed those hard kicks and knees. Still looking to press the action, however, Couture pressed Vera against the cage and landed a nice right hand an uppercut before the round ended. It was a round likely won by Vera on the strength of those body shots.
ROUND 3
Vera would continue to look to land his leg kicks to the body, but Couture would charge in and land a flurry against the cage. Some more dirty boxing from Couture against the cage would score points as he continued to work for the takedown. Some more nice dirty boxing from Couture as he landed some knees and short punches and elbows. Vera appeared to be feeling the affects of a grueling battle as he breathed deeply. Another HARD left kick to the body would land for Vera and Couture doubled over in pain, but the older man shook it off, pressed forward and continued to land some nice punches in the clinch. Now Vera was looking for the takedown, which he eventually got, ending up in the full mount with just 30 seconds left in the round. Couture was able to buck him off though and get back to his feet. Both men would begin to trade and land big punches right before the end of the round. Good action in the final seconds of a very close round.
Official judges scorecards: 29-28, 29-28, 29-28
THE WINNER BY UNANIMOUS DECISION...RANDY COUTURE
MIKE SWICK VS. DAN HARDY
ROUND 1
Swick came out fast looking to charge in, but Hardy caught up with a quick short right hand. Unfazed, Swick pushed him up against the cage where both men wrestled for positioning where they exchanged short punches and knees. After a brief break in the action when Hardy took an accidental low blow, Swick continued to work for the takedown, but Hardy did a good job of avoiding it. Both men would trade more punches and knees on the inside, until they separated with seconds left in the round and traded shots, Swick landing the better ones. It was close, tactical round, that could have gone to either man in the eyes of the judges.
ROUND 2
Hardy came out and landed a hard right hand that immediately buckled Swick. With a smile, Hard charged in, but Swick wrapped him up against the cage. Hardy would continue to work Swick along the cage, landing punches to the body, legs and anywhere that was open. Although Swick would fire back and land some good punches of his own, it was clear that Hardy was landing the bigger shots. After being separated by the ref, both men would trade some leg kicks before Swick would land a nice 1-2 and an even better left hook counter. Hardy, however, would answer with a big 1-2 that appeared to rock Swick again.
ROUND 3
Hardy came out looking to drop bombs again, landing a nice right hand, but Swick threw caution to the wind as he let his own hands go, landing some nice right hands and good counter left hooks. Hardy, however, would still find a home for the big right hand, rocking swick again. Hardy would press forward, getting a takedown and landing some sharp elbows that would cut Swick open. When the ref brought the action back to their feet, Swick would try to press the action, obviously feeling as though he was down on the scorecards. Although Swick would land a couple more decent right hands, it was too little, too late.
Official judges scorecards: 30-27, 30-27, 29-28

all that couture did was hold vera to the ring . no damaging punch . no lethal kicks . couture even admitted that vera s kick almost knocked him out a couple of times. im in shock . i have no idea how couture won a unanimous decision on this one.

Yeah ! They Said Couture won because of the Octagon Control! Octagon Control!!!! What the FXXX! Those three rounds all he did is to hold Vera to the ring! But Vera had a great defense, leg kicks to the body that made couture fall. For me Vera won the fight! I know you'll be back "The Truth" show them!
