Jamal Sampson impresses Toroman (Smart Gilas)

Jamal Sampson went through a three-hour workout with the Smart Gilas Pilipinas national team and Serbian coach Rajko Toroman liked what he saw.

The 6-foot-11 former NBA journeyman will now undergo a series of medical tests as the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas expressed interest in signing him up as a naturalized player for the national team.

He is a legitimate NBA veteran who coach Rajko describes as a pure center,” said SBP executive director Noli Eala. “He’s simple but a very good defensive player with excellent post moves, exactly what we need.

Though not the flashy type, Eala said the 245-pound Sampson is bigger, stronger and more seasoned than the 6-foot-11 CJ Giles, whom the SBP released last week due to erratic behavior and injuries.

During the Gilas practice, Sampson dominated the paint and swatted every shot the 6-foot-11 Greg Slaughter tried to make.

how about the other 2 prospects? Pruitt...

    we really need backup..

mahirap na baka mag back to zero na naman!

  7. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 9:49 AM

We should try chinese or iranian prospects...hehehe....just kidding!
Sampson is another one to watch for, otherwise a back-up is necessary...but i was thinking, kung medyo malas ang Gilas in getting a sincere import, i think they should consider to be not too serious in getting one...Let's improve our game, i believe we can do it our own...Our players are far more skilled and intelligent playing hoops than any Asian teams...We just have to catch up with FIBA style of game...
International exposure is a mandatory, even US team are doing it prior to any international competitions...
So far SBP has done a great job and doing the right step in this dream of reclaiming our past glory, the difference is, it's not so easy in this era where everybody is giving having the same program...
    Goodluck SBP, Smart-Gilas, Nokia-Pilipinas and D-league!!!

According to reports, Jamal Sampson's right foot injury was caused by a weak ankles but already treated and corrected through a series of therapies and rejuvenating exercises.

Sampson's 2004 injury was caused by Plantar Fasciitis. A common injury that causes heel pain and pain in the sole of the foot. Plantar Fasciitis is inflammation of the Plantar Fascia, a fibrous sheath that runs most of the length of the sole of the foot. During walking and running, as you 'toe-off', the Plantar Fascia becomes taut and helps the foot act as a lever to push off with force.
Plantar Fasciitis usually develops as a result of overuse. Pain is common over the inside of the heel and usually radiates down the inside of the sole of the foot. The pain usually occurs with activity and is also typically present in the morning when taking the first steps of the day. The key to treatment of Plantar Fasciitis is to remove the strain on the Plantar Fascia, by resting and using the Plantar Fasciitis AirHeel.
The Airheel is the latest state of the art technology that is currently used by NBA players like Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, etc...

The case of Jamal Sampson is like the case of PJ Brown of the Chicago Bulls, which with multiple therapies and proper treatments resulting to a more steady and reinforced right foot that feels like a brand new foot.
The AirHeel is made of lightweight neoprene fabric and is simple to apply - just slip it on like a sock and adjust the fit with one strap.

    Available soon in the Philippines.

d ba isang naturalized pwede? anung pinagsasabi nyong isa pa for back up kasi injured prone to. isa lng pwede maging naturalized mga kups.

  15. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 12:28 PM

Sana nga gumaling pa slaughter,we need a a back up center at sayang din yung height. Tama din sabi ng isang poster na nag improve c ballesteros which is a good indicator that Toroman's program is working.
One thing more, hopefully by next year completo na ang players ng Gilas(Lutz on march).I'm still hoping some PBA players will rendered some it;s player.(Williams sana).Isama din nila c pRingle,at mahiram din c christian s.,6'7 din na forward yun who is currently playing for University of Nebraska.

    UnoDosTres is too excited. HEHE

  29. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 7:01 PM

  30. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 7:45 PM

Im going to stick with Baracael pre.. kc Baracael is there already when ung Team nila is bago plng.. and I doubt toroman will let go of Baracael as the other poster in IBN said Toromans concern is not on match up, he is more on looking for a player who can play roles.. di ung super star type so I guess Baracael is enough for our forward position..

  31. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 7:46 PM

  32. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 8:13 PM

the only way to win the FIBA is recruit the ones that r a threat to the RP ...like Hadadi or Yao Ming that is the best solution make them all our Backup

good research sir!! pero with all due respect naman po siguro.. di ba sa NBA pag may gusto sila iactivate na player sa reserved list may nilalagay sila sa injured list to replace it.. gets nyo po ba? baka naman yung ibang injury nya e gawa gawa lang para may maactivate silang ibang players sa roster nila.. ano po sa tingin nyo?

ano po ba height nito? sana nga siya na ang fit sa gilas.. pero di kaya matanda na sya for this team???

    Go Gilas!!!

  35. Anonymous // November 25, 2009 8:17 AM

nasa 18 na ata ang players ng smart gilas as of now. among them, mamimili si coach toroman kung sino ang isasali sa final line-up. although assured naman lahat ng financial compensation kahit hindi makuha. aside from that, mag improve pa ang fundamental skills ng mga players na nasa pool.

  36. Anonymous // November 25, 2009 2:39 PM

His baptism of fire will be tommorow against powerhouse San Miguel.

About the question on naturalization, yes FIBA allows two naturalized players per nation/ team. However, only one is allowed to be fielded in. So kahit dalawa ang i naturalize ng Smart Gilas, iisa lang ang pwede makalaro. So back up o reserve nga lang ang isa if in case magka injury o maka problema ang isang naglalarong naturalized player.

  40. Anonymous // November 27, 2009 12:24 PM

Kung mapapansin nyo puro shooting at pick n roll lng kalimitan ginagawa nila...Maybe sa PBA kaya nilang gawin un,pero against China or Iran?I doubt it.Eh higanteng mabibilis ang kalaro nila.Toroman is a great coach, kaso ung nagawa nya for iran sa tingin ko hindi nya magagawa para sa atin.Bakit? Japeth at center,Japeth at PF,and Japeth in SF.Ung dalawa off the bench!jejeje and manny pacquiao at point!
