Joe Chavez, the veteran cutman who worked in the past with Manny Pacquiao, and is now working with WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, predicts the Puerto Rican star will be too big and too strong for Manny on November 14. He says Pacquiao is a very talented fighter but not big or strong enough to overcome the physical disadvantages in the fight.
Pacquiao is a terrific small fighter who beat some bigger fighters who weren't as talented [as Cotto] like [Ricky] Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya, who was no longer the same fighter as he was in the past. But Cotto is better than those two and he is bigger and stronger than Pacquiao, Chavez told Primera Hora. All things being equal, if you have a small talented fighter and another fighter who is equally talented but bigger - the bigger of those two will win.
Chavez pointed to few historical examples to prove his point. He doesn't see how Pacquiao will be able to deal with Cotto's size and strength. He thinks Cotto will be able to neutalize the speed of Manny.
Bob Foster was a great fighter at 180-pounds but when went up to the heavyweight against Muhammad Ali, he was knocked out in the eighth round, said Chavez.
Also, the same can be said about Sugar Ray Robinson, that was a great weight welterweight and later became the best at 160-pounds. But when he went up in weight to fight Joey Maxim (at 173-pounds) - the size difference was too much.
I take nothing away from Manny. He is a good fighter and I know him. But Cotto is going to be too strong for him. If there is a clinch, Cotto can literally pick him up and throw him to the floor. And Cotto is a well rounded fighter who knows how to make adjustments in the ring.

well see joe! you work with manny in PAST not in PRESENT! so you dont know manny! your gonna eat your shit if you see the result!MILLIONS of people said that before when he fought alot of fighter but they end up eating their own word cuz manny kick all of their asses! your next joe!
of course u will say that shit to manny, coz they dumped you as his former cutman now working with cotto.. pac will make history here thats for sure old man..
Traydor ka chavez sana kainin mo lahat ng sinasabi mo laban kay manny walang traydor na nagwawagi.
Joe chavez has no loyalty. when he turns to other fighter against manny they all lost. what will we expect. it's a money game. fighter against many will give him an easy job because they lost in a knockout always!!!hheehe
i agree with joe 1000000% hahahhahahaha!!!
its natural, he with cotto's side... get ready joe chavez you will have lots of work to do on the fight. cotto's head will be cracked open. bring some needles and string.
Boxing is like poilitics.
maybe mr. chavez is member of political clan, whom he favor his loyalty is there.
By the looks of their sparring Shawn Porter is too strong for pac. Where is the footage of pac dominating Porter? If it happened they would have showed it already. Instead you get to see that pac has trouble fighting backwards. Could this be the reason they were talking about switching sparring partners once in LA? To smaller fighters none the less.
obviously, where should mr. chavez put his loyalty? it's a no brainer! to the person who puts food on his table of course! let's just wait until Nov. 15 comes and see what happens after 12 rounds...
respect joe's opinion....thats how he sees the fight to happen...he doesnt say anything bad to our pacman anyway...he has his own point to say...let us not be rude to other's opinion...peace!!
I didn't see anything wrong with what mr. chavez said. it's his opinion. he has his points about cotto's advantage and its a fact. but boxing is a boxing. you throw a punch and hope it will hit hard and knock off your oponent. lets not boast about manny's talent but i hope we remain HUMBLE for having a champion like manny. it is much sweeter if manny will emerged victorious in this fight and foreigners will praise the filipino for their humility. win or loss.. im still going to be proud of manny.. proud of myself as a filipino. lets just enjoy the fight!
lets just enjoy the fight and be humble, just like manny, you know..
