Malignaggi: ”There’s something very fishy about Pacquiao”

The list of names that seem to find World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s great recent performances ‘fishy’ is growing and growing. Floyd Mayweather Snr. is not alone in suspecting something. Now Paul Malignaggi is dropping hints. Also, Nate Campbell believes the weight demands of Pacquiao are beating his opponents.

Speaking to Fight Hype, Malignaggi said, ”There is something fishy about Pacquiao and for a lot of reasons”.

If the situation is what I think it is, God, Pacquiao will not lose to any of these welterweights. It’s unfortunate. The level we have of testing in boxing is not really that deep. I mean, we have urine tests on the day of the fight and we don’t have much else. There’s ways to beat drug tests. We only have your standard urine tests, so, what are you really going to catch? I’m not saying Pacquiao is on anything, but you have to look really closely at the situation, because there’s something very fishy about what’s happening”.

Malignaggi continued, ”Even Margarito, when he was walking through Miguel Cotto’s firepower, you could see the pain on him. Like he had to gut it out, you know what I mean? There’s guys that Miguel Cotto has not knocked out. There’s guys that have gone 12 rounds with Cotto and lost, like Shane Mosley even. Pacquiao looked like he was walking in the park taking those punches, they were like pieces of paper bouncing off him. Even Margarito who walked through Cotto’s punches had to literally go through hell to take them. And that’s a full blown welterweight. This is a guy coming up in weight doing these things. Margarito didn’t even hurt Cotto every time he touched him. Nobody hurts Cotto every time they touch him”.

Malignaggi went on to say, ”Again, it’s not a fact, but over the course of history, have you ever seen anyone in boxing history, move up in weight and hurt guys more as they move up, or is it the opposite? The course of history has shown us that as you move up in weight, the guys are used to getting hit by bigger men so your power will no longer affect opponents like it did in your own weight class. Pacquiao is the first guy in history, and he might be the special thing that everyone says he is, he might be the first person to go up in weight and knock out more as he goes up. Me? I think that looks a little fishy. I think that’s a little bit fishy”.

In another interview with boxingscene, Malignaggi said about Pacquiao, ”I think there is something up with Manny Pacquiao. I am not going to get into it. I think people will understand what I am saying. Full blown welterweights don’t take those type of punches from Miguel Cotto the way he took them with total disregard for his power nor do they hurt him with every punch they hit him with. These are full blown welterweights I am talking about. This guy is coming up in weight and doing all these things. There is something up with this guy but that’s as far as I am going to go into it. Floyd Mayweather (Senior) has gotten into it a little bit. There have been other fighters who have mentioned it. I am not going to get into no controversy. I am going to leave it at that. There is something that seriously makes me feel weird about Manny Pacquiao. I am going to leave it at that”.

Firstly, Paul Malignaggi is a great fighter who knows his stuff about the sport. I have a lot of respect for the man and whatever he says, I will take seriously. He makes some very valid points. How the hell is Pac Man knocking more guys out as he goes up? The only fighter I can think of that has done that is Sugar Ray Robinson. He started as a lightweight and was knocking middleweights out with single punches. However, Robinson had the power he had at middleweight at lightweight. With Pacquiao it has suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Robinson was dismantling lightweights and did the same to middleweights. Pacquiao was not dismantling lightweights. How do you go the distance with a guy like Barrera, and lose to guys like Morales and draw with Marquez, then move up to divisions and knock Miguel Cotto about like a teddy bear?

Take Ricky Hatton for instance. Hatton was knocking great fighters out at light welterweight such as Jose Castillo. However, when he moved to welterweight to fight Collazo, the power was not there. Hatton could not bully him the same way he could at 140. Take Juan Manuel Marquez for instance, he went from lightweight to 147 to face Floyd Mayweather and the power was not there. Why is Pacquiao different? I am not suggesting there is anything ‘fishy’, just stating the facts.

pacman don't need any drugs or suppliments like most of the american athletes.. its all natural, try eating malunggay hahahaha...

its all about GOD and the support of the FILIPINOS...

How do you go the distance with a guy like Barrera, and lose to guys like Morales and draw with Marquez, then move up to divisions and knockMiguel Cotto about like a teddy bear?

fact: only manny pacquiao knockout morales. is that reason enough??

  8. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 4:54 PM

kasi wala silang puso katulad ni pacquiao. puro kasi sila bakla. pagnatamaan ng malakas biglang uurong na agad. iba si pacqiuao. hinda agad naurong.

With Manny's success in different division, expect green-eyed idiots to surface... such guys are so pathetic.

It's called good training and loyal faith. Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa. Period. Too bad these Americans are so used to drugs..

Remember the Filipino Moros? (not the rebel forces but native warriors of old)

Wherein the ferocity of the Filipino warriors allowed them to keep on attacking even after getting shot?

This forced the invention of the .45 caliber pistol (although it was never used on them)

They were from the Southern Philippines.
Guess where Manny Pacquiao is from?

It's strange to foreigners, but it's a heritage of the Southern Filipinos.

Malignaggi is just SOOOO AMAZED with Pacquiao because that's the thing HE CAN'T DO, KNOCKOUT HIS OPPONENTS.

Just looked at Maligno's record, 26 wins, 3 losses and A VERY PITY 5 KNOCKOUTS!!!! only 5 KNOCKOUTS!!!

even before Pacquiao fought Cotto, Hatton, De La Hoya, Diaz and Marquez, he already KNOCKED OUT 30+ OPPONENTS. He's born with that power, and Maligno is just tooo envy of that POWER.

Look at his height, he's almost at 5'9" and he's just in the junior welterweight class??? Man, he's malnourishly thin, seems like he can't pull a work ethic to build his body according to his height.

Did he see how Manny trains? Maybe if he copy Manny's training routine, he'll collapse for sure 'coz he's just a weakling.

Malignaggi is just amazed of Pacquiao, he envy his skills and work ethic.

  14. Danilo // November 23, 2009 5:33 PM

It's just a sign that Pacquiao is REALLY BIG! He is now the talk of the town! It is not right to compare the fights of Pacquiao vs Morales or Barrera or Hatton or Cotto or dela Hoya or Marquez and expect PacMan to use the same strategy and training for all of those fights! Roach has successfully formulated an effective training which made Pacquiao that devastating a boxer! There is nothing "fishy" about disciplined training!

  15. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 5:54 PM

Just like basketball, most of the point guards are shorter among the line up and the taller must be at the center because smaller they are quiker than big center.

Maliggnaggi never compare pacman to you always running running.

  16. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 5:55 PM

they can't accept the fact that pacman is really good... they think asians are weak... total racism wala bang karapatan ang mga asians or PINOYS na tumaas and maging sikat?? kala nila walang kwenta ang mga asians fuck ya'll critics manny's the man... would you think nike will sign him if he's not good?? hahahahaa ur just jealous of what manny's getting..... PINOY rules....

if he is using illegal whatsoever dapat noon pa na suspend since USA has great technology when it comes to medical fields hahahahaha its all natural brother... manny's not using any drugs like what y'all using hahahahaha....

    check all your baseball stars...
    PINOY never cheats

  25. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 9:13 PM

lame words to project envy!! shame on you malignaggi you're a moran!! for talking about all these BS to manny. if you cant swallow the thought that manny is that good! better shut the hell up!! have you look at the face of pacman after the cotto fight?! its all beaten up!! worse than what he got from marquez the second time they fought but he withstood all those punches its because of his heart!!heart of a FILIPINO! the one that thrives and survives amidts of all adversities...a warrior in the purest sense..

  26. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 9:27 PM

    Who's MALI NANGA GI????

Pacquiao is a humble & God fearing person. All the success he have is because of his sheer determination to be SOMEONE.

He got the most POWERFUL PUNCH that no other boxer could ever have. Iba yung lakas ng kamao.

I also smell fishy with Pacquiao, he really loves eating fish, seafoods, clams, oysters & the likes.

I suggest to all the PACQUIAO detractors, you better LIVE A CLEAN LIFE, HEALTHY LIFESTYLE & BE RELIGIOUS, in that way for sure you'll be as successful as MANNY.

    "NOW YOU KNOW!"--- Pacman.

  27. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 9:30 PM

All Pacmans fights are dedicated to all boxing and non boxing fan especially to all the Filipino people around the world boxing fan or not And this is why pacman is getting stronger every fight... The sense of pride for his coutry is what Pacman has that other fighters will never have.... In a country were most of the people lost hope and dreams are shattered because of economic problem the only thing you can do to help is show and make them believe that there is no impossible if they work hard and try there best in what they do... Pacman became an inspiration to the people and if he lose he feels that he let everybody down that's why every fight he gets stroger and stronger... Money, fame and other recognition are bonus of hard work and displine but the thought of giving pride and honor for your country that is were the hard work and displine comes from to give you extra strength...

  28. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 9:31 PM

    MALI.NA.NGA.GAGI /n./tagalog/English translation>> WRONG & DUMB!

Don't be so insecure Malignaggi and Mayweather Sr., this PACMAN is for real. And he'll gonna beat all of you with just a punch.

GO MANNY! MAKE YOUR COUNTRY PROUD! OH YEAH!

  29. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 9:35 PM

Not only MALIGNAGGI said this. also team mayweather. from my own perspective, I think that Pacquiao doesn't do anything wrong. It's a result of hard training and inspiration. He always dedicate his fight not only for himself but also for his country ( the philippines ). He is the definition of demolition.

  30. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 9:35 PM

hahaha. its plain and simple riding on pacman's popularity eto si maligno. on the other side it's also the setback of all the fame and fortune na natatamasa ni Pacman ngaun. He just need to be focus and not pay attention to such crap and all the bullshit that will be thrown at him!

  31. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 9:47 PM

maliganaggi's wondering about pacquiao is something interesting in the sense that even me have tried to ask this thing. why pacquiao is very different from other boxers in terms of power and strength? however, to have some presumption that there is something fishy is very far from what i think. since i strongly believe that to say that there is something fishy with pacquiao is also accusing that there is something fishy with the whole organization of boxing which i think an unrational assumption since the organization will not do something that will make thier credibility down just for the sake of one person (pacquiao). from my own analysis pacquioa's power, strength, and skill are the things that make him different from the other individuals. pacquiao is associated with these things. like michael jordan in basketball, tiger wood in golf, einstein in mathematics and science, so on and so forth. this is his identity that makes him special, it is natural to him. from the very beginning of his existence he does already possess this kind of power that happens to be develop and improve through of his training and experience.

This Maglinaggi guy just wants a piece of Manny so that he could have his biggest pay check ever and retire from boxing. I feel sorry for the guy because he felt before that he was the greatest boxer in the division until he got beaten (badly) by Miguel Cotto whom we all know got dismantled by Pacman. One thing Maglinaggi that has in him = JEALOUSY over Pacman's accomplishments.

  35. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 10:44 PM

pacman has naturally gifted skills, that's why he carries the power even in welterweight class.

  41. Anonymous // November 23, 2009 11:59 PM

We all love Manny, but don't be so naive are you telling me he is better than Ali, Robinson, Chavez, Duran, Sanchez? All these guys had to work to become legends. Manny was one of these guys, but what he is doing now is ridiculous. Just like Barry Bonds, he was a hall of famer one of the best but when he started juicing and smoking the competition he just ruined his own legacy. Marion Jones, and Ben Johnson the same thing. The public had more respect before they started obliterating the competition. All of them were being worshipped at one time the same way Manny is being worshipped right now, and they were all juicing.

  49. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 2:33 PM

i agree with you guys! its just plain hardwork when manny gets up that weight class he makes sure that he trains hard enough to improve his speed and punching power, paul is weak he ain't got nothing to prove and liam santigo agrees with him what a fool!

BUONG PUSONG TIWALA SA SARILING KAKAYAHAN AT PANANALIG SA DIYOS - that's whats up with Pacman. Malignaggi, maybe you wanna join the "KO'd by pacquaio" club so you experience 1st hand whats "FISHY" about MP.

  52. Anonymous // November 24, 2009 10:09 PM

Ms. Paulina Malinguinie? Malilengua? or whatever your name is the reason why Manny is on top and guys like you are not is because instead of crying and complaining like you sorry ladies, Manny takes it upon himself that he trains 100 times harder than you sorry losers. I can bet that he trains a whole lot harder in week than you train for an entire training camp. So instead of whining and making excuses take a look at yourself and ask am I training at the same level as Pacquiao? By the way you complain and cry..... I guess not even close

  53. Anonymous // December 8, 2009 5:11 AM

Girlynaggi is bitter. The guy who beat him got annihilated in 2 rounds. Diaz is gonna kill him this time!

  54. Anonymous // December 20, 2009 12:12 AM

we just have to accept it,that, the reason why they can't believe pacman can do that is because his asian!!!pbf could have done that, but like what rugged man said!!!he has to prove it!!he has a gifted talent, but to maintain his perfect record which the main reason why his on top is to fight smaller tough fighter and goes up to fight him!!!he knows if he lose,to any opponent, hes gone, legend is not his goal,MONEY IS!!!PEACE
