JOHOR BAHRU (FIBA Asia U16 Championship): Soheil Yousefi once again lead Iran to victory scoring 18 points including the crucial free-throw that sent the game into overtime.

The Philippines may have been much smaller than their Iranian counterparts but they definitely made up for it with heart as they drove into the lane time and again to challenge the towering Iranian defense. However, with three of their players fouling out of the game, Iran managed to push past them winning the game 83-73.

Philippines is no stranger to Iran as both teams have already met three times prior to this game, of which two were friendly matches played before the start of this tournament. It had been a tight first half with a total of six lead changes in those first twenty minutes of play.

Trailing by two late in the first half, Iran rallied back in the last two minutes as Amir Sedighi made a turnaround jumphook at the buzzer to give Iran a 37-31 lead going into the halftime break.

Iranian Coach Abol Ghasem Kiani was called for a technical a minute and a half into the second half on a controversial traveling call against Sajjad Mashayekhi. Sara calmly swished the two free throws and added a three point shot to cap off an 11-0 Filipino scoring run.

Kieffer Issac Ravena made a tough drive and layup past two taller iranian defenders to give Philippines a 1 point lead with 37 seconds to go. A missed Iranian shot was batted around under the basket and somehow found its way into Soheil Yousefi's hands.

Yousefi was fouled driving to the basket and hit one of his free throws to tie the game with 15 seconds left on the clock. Ravena tried to work his magic but his shot missed the rim entirely, rebounding off the backboard into Jeoffrey Javillonar's hands. But he missed the put-back and the game went into overtime.

With Kevin Ferrer and Paolo Luis Romero fouling out of the game, Philippines were left with no true post player to contend with the much taller Iranians. Iran took the lead early in overtime and never looked back, winning the game 83-73.

what a heart showed by this kids. not playing as superstars but as a team willing to sacrcifice for the name of our country. PBA stars should adopt this kind of mentality and coaches should also look for the talents and personality of their players. securing that the best available and willing players should be included in their teams not just by utilizing the same players who is willing to hurt for them over and over again. sad to say will not be able to represent our country again. i hope smart gilas could have another caidic, samboy lim and calma again in the future. plz include kelly williams for your future line up in qualifying for olympics. he has the biggest heart in the pba and alapag too.. good luck gilas and ginebra!

future of philippine basketball. even small but fighting for chances. manny pacquiao should be an example for us not saying that we should stop bcoz we are small. with team work and brave heart we can win against tall teams. like david did to goliath not getting intimidated. Congrats to RP under16 team! dont be sad but always bring the experience with u! hope that someday most of u will represent our country again.

hay naku! sayang na sayang ang laro natin sa iran.naka-3rd place na sana tayo at posible pang makapasok sa under 17 fiba world basketball championship sa germany next year.In our game for 3rd place against iran, the height factor again went against us as iranian big men hammered their way inside against our hapless, smaller defenders.I just hope this tournament will finally open the eyes of our basketball bigwigs.I know coach Eric Altamirano is an intelligent coach and in fact one of the bright spot in the revamp of our basketball system. Our players does not pale in comparison with other asian competitors in terms of talent but their lack in height did them in.If only we have one or two players standing over 6'-4" we have had big fighting chance against china and iran.Nevertheless we still gave them a scare despite their huge advantage in height. That only shows that the Filipinos were really talented. It just happened that we were not created to become tall people.Going back to the basketball system I've mentioned a while back,in this tournament that we had participated in,it showed that we can't be lebron james,or michael jordan,or vince carter to name a few of american basketball personalities we filipinos always try to imitate.Hey guys let's wake up!we can't compete internationally if we want to become james, bryant, jordan or carter because we lack height. We should develop our outside shooting so we can have an outside threat. We should try to find and groom pure shooters so we will have a chance with basketball giants. If our players can shoot from the outside, it will kinda loosen up the defense from the interior paving the way for our "BIG MEN" to operate inside. Please focus your training rigidly on perimeter shooting and free throw shooting. Our dismal and poor showing from this two aspects is always evident in all of our national teams.Coaches Eric, Toroman and the rest of the guys out there in SBP, please do something about it. I'm one of the many Filipinos who have rooted for our team in the just concluded under 16 FIBA Asia Basketball Championships for men and I can truly say that you have made us proud here in Malaysia. We just fell short because OUR PLAYERS ARE SHORT.Nevertheless, Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas you initially made the right track towards our ultimate goal_TO BE THE BEST ONCE AGAIN IN ASIAN BASKETBALL. Keep it up and try to implement some brilliant changes in our training system. GO GO GO PILIPINAS!!!! LET'S GO PILIPINAS LET'S GO!!!!-MALAYSIA MARINE AND HEAVY ENGINEERING COST CONTROLLER

free throw talaga isa sa dapat pag tuunan ng pansin, galing natin magslash! galing natin magpasabit, galing natin kumuha ng foul pero pagdating sa freethrow mintis sayang yun ganun opportunities kasi kala nila free throw doesnt make big difference well sa una OO! pero pag sa huli na maiisip natin na san i make those free throw sana panalo tyu,sa shooting dpt tyu mag tuun ng pansin! GO RP YOUTH,
KUNG DI SANA NAFouled out yung mga bigmen natin e sana third tyu! =) liit kasi ntn! haha pero for me height doesnt matter just play with all your hearts and kaya natin to! PROUD TO BE PINOY!

bakit pag lamang tayo sa 1,2,3 quarters, the height was not an issue, pero pag natalo excuses na natin ang height? kung talo tayosa height umpisa pa lang tambak na tayo...
