Smart Gilas may pull out of its guest stint in the KFC PBA Philippine Cup in the wake of the league’s decision rendering as no-bearing the results of its matches in the tourney.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Noli Eala said they will make the decision after his separate talks with SBP president Manny V. Pangilinan and PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios.
“That (a pullout) is a possibility but we’ll not do that without good reasons,” said Eala.
“With the PBA’s new directive, we want to know if our participation in the tourney still serves its purpose,” Eala added.
“Since it’s already no-bearing, one question is whether PBA players would be sanctioned if any incident happens. Or whether we can now play under FIBA rules with SBP referees calling the game.”
The SBP top official said the PBA’s decision changing the set-up of Smart Gilas’ participation in the all-Filipino tourney came as a big surprise.
“While I do not question the prerogative of the commissioner to decide on this matter, this decision to change their own rules based on limited parameters imposed by the board is highly unusual and simply unfortunate,” said Eala.
He felt they’re not really welcome in the PBA so they’re sitting down in a meeting to decide on their own options.
“We have time since our next game is still on Nov. 6,” said Eala.
The PBA rendered as mere tune-up matches the Smart Gilas’ stint in the tourney following turns of events, including C.J. Giles’ inability to play in two of their first three games.
With this development, results of games played by Burger King, Talk n Text and Barangay Ginebra against Smart Gilas have been nullified and will no longer reflect in the win-loss records of the three teams.

Tama si Noli Eala, sayang lang talaga ang oras at panahon ng Gilas sa PBA dahil:
1. No bearing - wala ng will to win ang bawat teams.
2. Hindi naman Fiba rules ang ginagamit. Baka mahawa ang Gilas sa style ng PBA.
3. Ma scout pa ang Gilas ng ibang Asian teams dahil palaging nasa news at may video pa ang bawat games.
4. Slow pace ang game sa PBA, hindi gusto ni Toroman.
5. Madaming politiko sa PBA, ayaw ni MVP at Eala.
I think that would be enough reasons to opt out of the PBA.

Please ask for reconsideration on the decision of the PBA Board with the intention that you will not allow CG Giles to play for the team to make your 7 remaining games with BEARING. With the addition of new big guys Slaugther and Fajardo your team is quite competitive, anyway GILES is already such a good player, while Rabeh, Slaughter and Fajardo need some seasoning and jelling with the team.
Anyway whether your team win or not we still enjoy watching it as long as it is with bearing.

dun sa suggestion na FIBA RULES ang gamitin pag GILAS team, TAMA yun kasi dba ginawa na ni COM yun last year nag adopt sya ng ibang rules para sa powerade. at kung ganun ang gagawin makakatulong yun (mag imbita kayo ng referee ng fiba na galing sa ibang bansa para walang masabi na may kinikilingan)

yung sa JONES CUP naman ni COACH YENG sa tingin ko "opinion ko lang to ha" hindi nya inilabas yung tunay na kakayahan ng TEAM P sa jones cup in preparation sa FIBA qualifying. kaya lang inabot tayu ng injury. yan lang ang kalaban ng PILIPINAS eh INJURY. balikan mo yung mga team from PBA na sumali internationally, nung walang na injured mataas nakuha nila yun ung sa BUSAN, tapos yung mga sumunod laging nawawala ang KEY PLAYER.
