I watched the footage. I shook my head. I knew instantly Burger King veteran guard Wynne Arboleda will pay for his outburst dearly. The league owes it to its fans that he should.
With 6 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter, Smart Gilas leads Burger King, 42-37. Infuriated by nasty comments from a male spectator sitting at courtside, Arboleda loses composure and decides to do something about it. All Arboleda sees is red.
The talkative spectator suddenly turns silent. He freezes in anticipation the way people freeze up when they see a drinking glass fall off the table. You see it coming but there’s little you can do.
Then, the glass shatters into pieces. Arboleda’s self-control is blown to smithereens. He assaults the spectator. It all starts with a kick to the groin. A flurry of careless swings follows.
All the spectator can see is the protective blanket of his forearms while life flashed before his closed eyes. Arboleda throws a right, right, left, right and right combination. None of which hits the spectator cleanly. All of which ends up on YouTube for everyone to see. I hear TV Analyst Andy Jao clearly state, “This is completely unnecessary." The crowd hears moans of repulsion.

All the spectator can hear from the inside of his hastily-made foxhole are deafening thumps.
A few feet away, members of Smart Gilas witnessed the attack. They were unsure how to react. If they knew the spectator well, at least one of them would’ve charged to his defense.
Clearly, the spectator was on their side. Clearly, the spectator, as Arboleda unloaded his fists of fury, was paying dearly for radically supporting the Smart Gilas national team. Clearly, Smart Gilas and its growing fan-base were getting under the skin of teams like Burger King and pros like Arboleda. Wynne made sure he drove home that point – with 1 kick and 5 swings.
After watching Smart Gilas win the crowd’s support in their October 5 meeting with Powerade Team Pilipinas, I sensed this team had charisma. Yes it had talent. Yes it had an international coach. But Gilas had something more. It had a quality more poignant than just having Japeth Aguilar choose them over everyone else.
Made-up mostly of collegiate standouts, Smart Gilas excels against top professionals. They don’t just survive against PBA teams. They actually have the capacity to succeed. I realize American import CJ Giles gives them a boost. But Smart Gilas isn’t all about Giles or Aguilar.
And I think people see that. That courtside spectator, lucky not to have his eyeglasses permanently stitched to his face, surely sees that too. Why else would he throw common sense out the window and verbally abuse PBA players thrice his size?
I, along with many others, condemn Arboleda’s attack. The PBA should too. Smart Gilas, however, must share the blame. Thanks to their recent performances, they’ve raised eyebrows, aroused people’s interest, forced professionals to play rugged and pushed one chatty, extremist fan to the edge.

No Matter What! Arboleda shouldn't do that.. PBA exists because of fans and PBA is a fan base.. He is playing many years of professional basketball.. He must used to this kind of trash talking.. Mr. Arboleda are you a professional? As I see Burger King is too desperate.. Coach Yeng is too dirty.. Remember Hontiveros!, Remember Eugene Tejada.. For Smart Gilas their no excuses.. Their is no problem on their offense, is their defense.. and I think they take Burger King lightly.. because of what happen in the the charity game againt powerade.. And I like to react on Coach Yeng said na mas pisikal daw sa fiba.. Maybe fiba is physical but not dirty.. But I think this kind of physical game will benifit the Smart Gilas in a long run.. The author was clearly using sarcasm to drive home a point that SMART gilas is simply the standard bearer of RP basketball at this point and not the PBA. Pero ung smart gilas talagang team play,nawala sila sa rhythm nila dahil sa mala american football na depensa ng BK. Utos talaga yan ni yeng guiao. Arboleda was wrong to do the act, period. Suspend him...what he did to Baracael was similar to what Rudy Distrito did to Jeffrey Cariaso...and that's the reason why the Fan was reacting...BK was playing dirty, so expect that Gilas fans will react too...Anyway, if you are a Professional player playing on a professional league, you shouldnt have done it...let it go just like some NBA players in US...do you think there's no hecklers there...yes, there is but the players are just professional enough to ignore it..except if you are crazy like Ron2x..hehehehe...

Marc pagsabihan mo ang mga fans ng GINEBRA. Kung maipapatupad yang code of conduct mo kuno mawawalan na sigla araneta..BGK papayag ba kayo sa adhikain nitong Marc. Dpat lang na mag adjust ang players ng PBA kasi kung walang ganon mawawalan excitement ang PBA. Ang di lang tama ay magtapon at mambugbog ng players ang fan period.

This is the worst PBA year under Alvares together with coaches like Guiao. Triger happy!! They enjoy the events that fans being hurt by their players. Don't they know why they are there?. 1.0 Players don't pay the fans, Fans do. 2.0 Player's place is the hardcourt and Lower/upper boxes seats are for fans ( if cross the line,trespassing ka!). 3.0 He can utter bad words back but has no right to hurt somebdy ( duwag!). Tolerance of such event drives away PBA fans.

With 4 Flagrant Foul on a single game, I think the BK team has real intentional to intimidate or really hurt the Gilas players. Maybe Yeng see's this as the only way to win againt Gilas.
