For the first time, Nike got their athletes from different disciplines under one roof, and it is a star studded affair for the new classic, “The AW77″ hoodie from Nike Sportswear for Fall/Winter 2009. Bringing together seven of Nike’s best athletes, Kobe Bryant, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Sofia Boutella, LeBron James, Alexandre Pato and Manny Pacquiao, the folks at Nike enlisted the help of maestro stylist, Karl Templer, and famed fashion photographer, David Sims to create a series of images to showcase AW77 in its true essence on Oct 1.

Having established himself as one of the powerhouses in the grueling fashion industry, Karl Templer had spent his time working with some of the biggest names in fashion. Other than a good decade as the Editor-In-Chief of Arena Homme Plus, putting a collective of beautiful celebrities in style and working with not only pages, but also covers for V, W and Vogue Italia, the man’s work are iconic and essential to the industry. Some of his best known images include a “Rehab” shot with Steven Meisel with Vogue Italia this July where he drew inspiration from favorite pop comeback/train wreck, Britney Spears, and also his portfolio with Calvin Klein. Working hand-in-hand with Karl Templer is British photographer David Sims, who is an easy favorite with W, The Face, Arena, i-D, Vogue and had worked with labels such as Pepsi, Gap, Yohji Yamamoto, Prada, Louis Vuitton…the list goes on, and now Nike.



Over the course of three months, both men visited four cities to photograph the athletes in their own persona and character, building a series of beautiful images that are raw, honest, passionate, and captured the spirit of the athletes both on-court and off. In a way, the photo shoot is the physical imagery embodiment of the AW77– authentic, original with high standards for craftsmanship and performance.



The AW77 is in a sense, the heritage hoodie that was first created in 1977 by Nike’s Geoff Hollister to fulfill the athletes’ needs for an ultimate heavy weight hoodie that can withstand miles and help the sportsmen focus on their game. The new AW77 for Fall/Winter 2009 is an upgraded version of the original that is soft and comfortable spun from the Loopwheeler looms, but tough on wear with water-resistant qualities. An old favorite re-crafted, check out the hoodie that puts athletes at the top of their game both on and off court, and also enjoy the photo shoot created by two masters of their trade in the industry.
